Flipping the Classroom

GRANT OVERVIEW
Mathematics teacher Larry Tietje expanded “flipping” in his Algebra II classrooms with support from a TEFFLA grant. Flipping is a teaching technique where students watch videos of each lesson at home and take guided notes. When they return to school, in-class time is devoted to working on math problems and assignments—the traditional “home”work—with Mr. Tietje available to answer questions and provide customized instruction.
The TEFFLA grant enabled Mr. Tietje to set up Chrome Book stations in the classroom, as he recognized that some students either did not have the technology access to view videos at home, or needed to be able to review videos in class. Now, all students are able to work at their own pace and maximize their own learning and comprehension.
